Tafika Camp, owned and operated by the Coppinger family since 1995, is a retreat on the banks of the Luangwa River on the northern edge of the South Luangwa National Park in Zambia. Differently special, you don’t have to look really hard to see why. The reason being that Tafika offers alternative safaris: micro-lighting across the verdant valleys; mountain bike trips through rugged bush following ancient trails of bygone times; as well as visit to the local Mkasanga Village. The latter involves embracing an environment where people hold on to the value of cultural responsibility, and thread traditions through the everyday life.
Although deliberately intended to be rustic and authentic, this by no means a mere bush resort. In fact, rated as one of the best camps in Africa, Tafika is the Remote Africa Safaris base camp. Maintaining consistently high standards, your authentic safari experience is assured, with every care being taken to keep guests’ comfort in mind, and with luxury touches prevailing throughout.
There are six spacious chalets – one of which is a honeymoon suite with a king size bed, and another comprises a family unit that has two double rooms – all complete with their own outdoor shower and unparalleled views of the Luangwa River. Intimately secluded, amid the omnipresent ebony groves indigenous to the region, Tafika overlooks the Wafwa Oxbow Lagoon that skims the end of the Great Rift Valley. And that means game – in abundance.
The camp operates within the dry season – which is from May to November, and this involves somnambulant, green stretches of time, that add a superlative dimension – and exquistie vistas – that are not often found in the wilds of Africa. This is where guests can enjoy river safaris, boating and canoeing guided tours, as well as breathtakingly scenery that is both exciting and unspoilt, and a true reflection of the best the African continent can offer.
Coupled with the Tafika experience of service excellence and supreme relaxation, guests are in a for a treat.
