The charming lakeshore town of Entebbe – with its old colonial gardens and parks and the lake in the background and with streets that are safe to walk – offers a relaxed stopover alternative to Kampala on your way into or out of the Uganda. If you’re looking for excellent food, great service and a warm, friendly atmosphere, then The Boma should be your first choice. The hotel retains all the charm and character of the original 1940s home, but is updated with every modern comfort. Just a few minutes’ drive from Entebbe International Airport, the hotel will arrange complimentary airport transfers for a seamless travel experience.

Personal service and hospitality are guaranteed at The Boma, which is set in tropical gardens in a leafy suburb. Each room has an individual African and European decor scheme and is designed to reflect the original colonial architecture, with four-poster beds draped with mosquito nets, a private veranda, en-suite bathroom, satellite TV, international power points, safes, complimentary mineral water and WiFi. Choose from twin or king-size double beds, and family rooms, triples and cots are also available.

The residents-only restaurant is open from 6am to 10pm, and is known for its delicious homemade European-style meals, with a dash of Indian, Thai and Mediterranean choices as well as some vegetarian and vegan options. The Boma also offers a fully stocked bar.

There is a guest computer with WiFi, as well as a scanner, printer and photocopy machine, while the same-day laundry service does depend on the vagaries of the weather. Luggage-storage facilities are available for guests with a late-night flight, and there is secure parking for those who are doing a self-drive African safari.

Relax and unwind beside the sparkling swimming pool or in the gorgeous tropical garden, where you will find games such as croquet and boules, as well as a pool table, small playground and sandpit to keep children of all ages entertained.

A bonus for birders or any wildlife watchers: the lawn, shrubs and trees on the grounds host a number of native birds that are readily seen, and a pair of bat hawks have been known to nest just 100 metres down the road.
