The Pearl of Africa, Uganda, is a country of dense forests, savannah plains, shimmering lakes, volcanoes and dramatic snowcapped mountain ranges each offering a variety of landscapes and experiences. Uganda is best known for its Mountain gorilla population and is home to half of the world’s 700 remaining individuals of this species. Trekking into the forests and spending an hour with a big Silverback is a once-in-a lifetime wildlife experience – you must be reasonably fit though as hikes can sometimes take as long as seven hours. Gorilla tracking tours are offered in the forested regions of the Bwindi National Park and the Queen Elizabeth National Park

While in Uganda, take the time to see the chimps, numerous bird species, rare forest elephants as well as the tree-climbing lions. Enjoy fascinating interactions with various Ugandan communities and don’t miss out on the Kampala market where curios are dirt cheap, and smiles are abundant.

There are not many luxury lodges in Uganda but most of the camps are comfortable enough. After a good night’s sleep, enjoy a river cruise in the Queen Elizabeth National Park, home to a diverse range of wildlife such as elephant, lion, giraffe and zebra. Africa’s most famous river, The Nile, has its source in Uganda at Jinja that caters to the more adventurous with great white water rafting.
