Winelands

Just 40 minutes from Cape Town, the Cape Winelands are amongst the most beautiful in the world. Pristine mountains flank lush vineyards, with dusty driveways leading to beautiful Cape Dutch style farmhouses. With a history and culture all off their own, the Winelands are both steeped in tradition and are a cosmopolitan hotspot for fine wining and dining.

Mountain passes cross through rugged terrain and bring you to fertile valleys below where centuries-old vineyards and scented orchards produce world famous wines and tasty fresh fruit. Gracious homes built in the typical Cape Dutch style is seen throughout the Winelands, which consist mainly of Stellenbosch, Franschoek, Constantia and Paarl. Several less well-known areas are also famed for their award-winning wine, such as Ceres, Elgin, McGregor and Montagu.

Visit the oak-lined streets of Stellenbosch, the heart of the wine industry and one of South Africa’s oldest (and prettiest) University towns. Experience the French heritage of Franschhoek, home to some of the region’s best restaurants and the annual Bastille Day festival. Stop and smell the roses amongst the thoroughbred horses of Robertson. On the way home, stop off for a glass of the good stuff at one of the trendy restaurants in Constantia – a residential suburb set amongst the vineyards.

With wine-tasting so engrained in Cape culture, a visit to the region would not be complete without a visit to the Winelands. Take the whole family, or just your significant other on a romantic picnic, and delight in the exquisite wines, cheeses and food of the area. Why not try the recently launched Wine Tram Tour and see several farms from the comfort of an open-air tram? Speak to us to put together the perfect Winelands itinerary.
