Picture perfect Chikwenya is a tented bush camp on the eastern boundary of Mana Pools National Park, and provides comfort and luxury with excellent game viewing opportunities. With the Zambezi River and lush vegetation, the area supports a variety of animals, such as big cats, elephants, buffalo and many more, as well as being a birder’s paradise. This unfenced camp provides both land and water based safari activities, and is ideal for a family-friendly vacation in the heart of Africa. Chikwenya can accommodate 18 guests in seven tents, tucked beneath a dense forest of albida and Natal mahogany trees which provide shade from the sun. Five of the tents sleep two guests, while the remaining two tents are family suites with a king size and a twin-bedded room.
The tents are elegant canvas structures, on raised wooden platforms. Each suite includes elegant furnishings, an en-suite bathroom with bath, shower and flush toilet, overhead fans, and a deck with outdoor lounging to enjoy the view of the Zambezi River and flood plains. The camp is open during the dry season each year, between April and late November. During this time, the albida trees shed their pods and provide food for many species – particularly elephant, who frequently wander close to the camp in search of food.
There is solar power throughout the camp, and a central lounge, bar and dining area where guests can socialise, enjoy delicious meals, or relax by the swimming pool while watching the game pass by. The Zambezi River, Sapi River, Mana Pools woodlands and flood plains are host to many species of game. The area is well known for elephants, but guests can also see leopard, lion, hippo, buffalo and wild dog. Daily 4×4 game drives and expertly guided walks enable guests to explore and spot game. Canoe and boat tours provide a unique safari experience. Chikwenya combines the thrill of a real African safari, with luxury accommodation and impeccable service for a unique safari experience
