Zambia’s oldest park is also the country’s largest. Proclaimed in 1950 and covering 22,400 km², Kafue National Park’s game viewing, bird watching and fishing are simply superb. Although only two hours drive from Livingstone, Kafue National Park remains relatively untouched and unexplored – perfect for a secluded getaway.

Large quantities of wildlife are sustained by the life giving habitats of grassland plains, woodland forests and lush wetland systems. The Park boasts an astonishing diversity of antelope – more than anywhere else in Africa – including the rare blue and yellow-backed duiker, sitatunga and lechwe. Kafue is also renowned for it’s leopard population, which are frequently seen on night-drives, and one of the largest populations of Wild Dog in Africa.

Home to over 400 different species, the rivers and wetlands of the reserve are a bird lover’s paradise. Notable species include the Wattled Crane, Purple-crested Lourie and Pel’s Fishing Owl. Keen anglers will also be rewarded with excellent fishing. For those looking to unwind, a relaxing sunset cruise along the river makes for an excellent place to enjoy a sundowner or two.

Kafue National Park’s infrastructure is ever-improving, with several airstrips and well-graded roads. The trackers and game rangers are extremely experienced and only to happy to pass on their expert knowledge of the bush. A diverse range of accommodation options means that there’s something to suit all budgets and preferences.
