Kwando Lagoon has arguably the most beautiful setting of a camp in Botswana. Nestled under giant ebony and marula trees on the banks of the Kwando River, the camp overlooks the Mudumu National Park. Completely renovated in 2011, the camp offers guests six immaculate thatched chalets elevated on wooden decks to optimize the stunning views of the floodplains below. The chalets are light and airy, allowing guests to enjoy the wilderness of Africa with all the comforts of home. Each chalet has a large bathroom with charming finishing touches, such as claw-footed baths and his-and-hers washbasins.

The site itself is home to a plethora of wild and birdlife, while a number of the infamous Big Five are often visible from the camp’s viewing decks. Guests at Kwando Lagoon can expect to share the riverbanks with large herds of elephant, which come to drink nearby. The camp boasts a reputation as one of the most heavily populated areas, particularly in the winter months, of elephants, buffalo and lions.

However, it’s the numerous packs of wild dogs here that sets Kwando Lagoon apart from other Botswanan camps. They’ve denned at the reserve since 1997, and Kwando Lagoon is the ultimate place to see wild dogs in Botswana.

Great care has been invested in the design of the communal areas of the camp, ensuring plenty of space to relax and enjoy the scenery in an environment that blends harmoniously with the natural surrounds. There is a lounge and library from which you can unwind and watch the life on the river. The dining area serves delicious cuisine and the bar is a great spot to socialize with other guests. Alternatively, you can lounge by the plunge pool to stay cool during the hot African summer days.

There are a great number of organized activities to ensure that guests get a real feel of the wilderness. The camp organizes day and night game drives, which are led by expert guides. There are also double-decker boat cruises to see the animals from an entirely different perspective, as well as guided bush walks.
