Lion Sands River Lodge is a family-owned safari lodge, world-renowned for their extraordinary service – and unforgettable safari experience. River Lodge offers one of those rare and magical experiences that are a combination of a few special ingredients; luxury, attention to detail, service, comfort, location and that indefinable quality that makes it last in your memory. Twenty individual thatched bedrooms overlook the Sabie River, which also attracts thirsty wildlife. River Lodge is the only lodge in the Kruger Park area with access to the river, and Lion Sands safari vehicles have the right to explore Kirkman’s Kamp Reserve; more than 7,000 hectares of game reserve.
River Lodge is Big 5 game country, and guests will be overwhelmed with the beauty and majesty of the wilderness. Game drives head out twice a day in a 4×4 vehicle, with experienced guides trained to track the Big 5. The wilderness can also be viewed from a hot air balloon, and on helicopter rides – something not to be missed.
The More family have been welcoming visitors to Lion Sands for three generations, and welcome each guest with warmth and sincerity. River Lodge has garnered accolades over the years, including the recent Conde’ Nast Traveler Gold List 2012 – for South Africa. With its exceptionally beautiful location, combined with gorgeous, sumptuous interiors and sublime cuisine, you may have to pinch yourself a few times during your stay!
River Lodge even has a Spa offering a host of soothing treatments for weary travellers, including facials, body scrubs and relaxing massages. The main lodge is a place of relaxation and space from which to appreciate the splendour of nature, complete with a spacious viewing deck and two heated swimming pools. The food is delectable, with intriguing touches on the menu that will delight many, including wild meat and game dishes, and a twist on traditional South African dishes.
