Thornybush Game Lodge

A well-established luxury game lodge overlooking the seasonal Monwana River, riverine forest, sweeping savannah and an active waterhole, Thornybush Game Lodge provides the perfect introduction to the wonders of an African safari for families, small groups, wedding parties and independent travellers. The historic original camp of Thornybush Private Game Reserve in South Africa’s Kruger Park, it was rebuilt in 2001 and offers a high level of luxury and attentive personal service. A luxurious new Amani spa has been added, there is a lovely swimming pool, and a 60-seater conference facility for those combining business with an inspirational bush retreat.

Sleeping a maximum of forty guests, the lodge has 18 luxury suites and two family suites, all offering spacious and elegant accommodation, air-conditioning and plenty of privacy. Lofty thatched ceilings shelter a huge four poster bed draped in mosquito netting and made up in soft white linen. Comfortable chairs and lamps provide several reading corners and the big glass doors open onto a private deck, from where guests watch wildlife.

The unfenced camp means that a giraffe might observe your outdoor shower or charming warthogs wander by. The ensuite bathroom has a bath tub and indoor shower as well and looks out onto a private stretch of forest. The two family suites have an additional lounge area with a sleeper couch and their own plunge pools on the decks.

Guests are allocated a ranger for the duration of their stay, who makes sure that game drives are tailored to your interests, whether it is observing all the Big Five, learning about birdlife or finding as many of the varied animal species as possible in the 14,000 ha private reserve. Children have a special program of activities including nature walks and game drives and there are children’s treatments at the luxury Amani spa, where a wonderful range of holistic treatments are available to pamper, restore and relax.

Delicious and creative food is served at regular intervals through the day, from morning coffee to lavish breakfasts, lunch, afternoon tea and superb dinners, plus sundowners and snacks on the game drive. A really special safari experience with prolific game-viewing.
