You are not very likely to forget your stay at this luxury tented camp. andBeyond’s Grumeti Serengeti Camp is situated in the valley between two hills, on the dramatic banks of an overflow to the Grumeti River. It is only fifty kilometres from Lake Victoria, and the foliage flanking the back of the camp provides spectacular sightings of rare wildlife such as Colobus Monkeys. Here you can sleep soundly at night after listening to a special chorus of bush babies, owls, and perhaps even the distant roar of a lion. It is a great place to rejuvenate and connect with nature.
The camp consists of only ten permanent tents made of canvas and palm fronds. The interior of the tents are decorated in a whimsical and playful fashion with colourful African fabrics, beads and mosaics. All tents have en-suite bathrooms and the private outdoor shower encourages you to shower under the stars. Plush, kind-sized beds provide restful nights and great relaxation.
The camp also provides private guest areas and river facing decks where you can enjoy a fine meal or recline with a sundowner drink while looking at game and the wonderful beaded artefacts. Traditional fires light up the night sky outside, and food is cooked in outdoor ovens while wonderful aromas permeate the air. Meals are served on the spacious patios that overlook the water, and more special or intimate dinners can be taken at the swimming pool. At night, the camp is lit with flaming lamps or torches, and the magical atmosphere is further enhanced by the night sounds of the African bush.
Grumeti Serengeti Camp is situated on the edge of the water and is often covered with a leafy layer of water cabbage under which hippos hide from the hot sun. The pan is rich in bird life, and many species of wading birds can be found here. The Grumeti is has a lot of resident game and is a wonderful place to watch the migrating wildebeest and other game cross the river. Activities include game drives, balloon rides and sundowner drives. You will never be bored here!
