Luxurious tree house style is the first impression of Lion Sands Narina Lodge, perched on stilts above the beautiful Sabie River in South Africa’s Kruger National Park, with elephants, hippos and rhinos often to be seen wandering past. One of only two intimate lodges in the 5000 ha. Lion Sands private concession, it offers the luxury of viewing a wide range of wildlife, including the Big 5 and the endangered black rhino, in an unspoilt, uncrowded environment, where you feel at one with the landscape. The elegant style, friendly personal service and glorious setting make Narina an ideal choice for a romantic safari experience.
The nine spacious suites are connected with the main lodge by raised wooden walkways overlooking the riverbank and shaded by century-old fig trees. Each one has a comfortable lounge area with sofa, leather armchairs and writing desk, then a huge bed enveloped in a mosquito netting canopy with sliding doors opening onto a private deck complete with plunge pool, which is the perfect place to watch the sunset with a glass of champagne. A big oval bath tub is set in the window of the bathroom, looking out onto the river with only the wildlife to see. Both indoor and outdoor showers and luxurious amenities complete the sensory experience.
At the main lodge contemporary chic is skilfully blended with timeless safari style to create airy welcoming spaces, a big open sided lounge, and more intimate cosy one with a big fireplace, and several decked sitting areas perched above the river bank. Delicious meals including breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and 3 course dinner are served on the deck, down on the river bank or in the long dining room.
There are more treats too during the twice-daily game drives with drinks and snacks served in a tranquil spot in the bush. The friendly and knowledgeable guides track wildlife to find the best sightings according to the guests’ interests, from lion prides to elephants, rhino and a host of other animals, sometimes even the rare pangolin.
Narina Lodge is a wonderful way to experience the Kruger with privacy, romance and style.
