Each luxurious suite, or khaya (Zulu for home) functions as an inclusive home and boasts its own lavish “his” and “her” bathrooms, secluded outdoor shower and private heated plunge pool on the private veranda. Decorated with hand-selected furnishings, the lodge is styled with crystal and leather and is a treat even for the finest connoisseur.
Guest areas include a beautifully appointed library that is home to a collection of rare African books and works of art and a historic bar that is decorated with photos of the area through the centuries. A large filtered infinity pool provides magnificent views out over the Sand River and there is also a small fitness facility, with bike, treadmill and multigym equipment. Despite the luxurious accommodation, the focus at Rattray’s is firmly on the game viewing that is some of the best in the country. Morning and evening game drives are taken in exclusive game viewing vehicles, specially designed to take 4 guests only, meaning everyone has a unhindered view. Sightings of the Big Five are common, as well as plenty of opportunities to view the huge variety of other plant, bird and animal life that makes its home in the area.
