World-renowned Mombo Camp is a firm favourite amongst luxury safari travellers. Set within the Moremi Game reserve on the northern tip of Chief’s Island in the Okavango Delta, this is one of the Botswana camps that is consistently rated with the ‘six paw’ status year after year.The setting at Mombo Camp is truly sublime. The camp consists of nine spacious and beautifully appointed canvas tents, built in the shade of large indigenous trees and raised two metres off the ground. Each has an on-suite bathroom and feature both indoor and outdoor showers. The tent interiors are luxuriously furnished, feature polished parquet floors and are constructed in such a way that it shows off the breathtaking vistas over the floodplains teeming with wildlife, from every room. The suites also feature a private sala area for late afternoon naps, a lounge area, as well as a veranda that opens up completely creating a fantastic ambiance of lightness and space. Guests are continually left speechless at the big game passing right in front of the camp, and often the best views are from the privacy of their own verandas. There is also a main lounge and dining area with a plunge pool and traditional boma where guests can enjoy sumptuous dinners under an African sky.
Staying at Mombo Camp is like starring in your own wildlife documentary – the sheer viewing opportunities and variety of animals and birds will blow you away. Chief’s Island is famed for it’s numerous predators, and guest are often treated to incredible hunting scenes by the big cats such as lion and leopard, as well as wild dog and spotted hyenas. Large herds of elephant, buffalo, southern giraffe, white rhino, blue wildebeest and Burchell’s zebra can also be seen all year round.
