Mowani Mountain Camp is the place to be if you want a totally unique and exclusive mountain getaway in between the large boulders of the Mowane mountain range in Namibia. The lodge is eco-sustainable and nestles cosily into the mountainside, blending effortlessly into the natural red colours of the mountain. The thatched dome-shaped constructs of the camp mimics the shape of the surrounding boulders so well that the camp is almost invisible. It is only when you arrive inside that camp that the sheer luxury and beauty of this place becomes apparent. Here you can experience a grounded sense of earthiness and nature!
Mowani means ‘Place of God’, and the tranquillity and serenity provided by this oasis justify the name. Located in the cosmic and wholesome rocky desert of the Damaraland area, it is indeed one of the finest lodges in Namibia. The camp is flanked by the Ugab and Huab Rivers, and the fantastical rock formations, endless vistas and diverse fauna and flora ensure that this remains one of the most favourite places in the world for visitors.
Mowani’s main lodge overlooks a well-frequented watering hole in the river, and the inimitable attention and service of the friendly staff are matched only by the quality and comfort of the lodge. Guests are welcomed at the reception area, and can then relax in the comfortable guest lounge that overlooks the watering hole. There is also a beautifully decorated dining room where sumptuous meals are served.
Accommodation comprises inconspicuous tents nuzzling into the boulders. The rooms vary in size and you can choose between the different types of rooms. The décor is East African and each room has a large bed draped in high-quality mosquito nets, endless views, refreshment station and most have private patios.
Activities include walking trails to the watering hole, and outings to the some of the oldest rock engravings, paintings and archaeological sites in the world. Game drives take place in the mornings and you are likely to encounter the elusive black rhino here. Enjoy the spellbinding sunset from the lodge viewing deck – totally spellbinding and irresistibly fantastic!
