Since opening in 2005, Sayari Camp has been one of the Serengeti’s most sought-after safari camps, owing to its luxurious standing, location and boast-worthy position only a few hundred metres from the Mara River. Hundreds of animals and migratory herds gather at the river in the early mornings and late evenings, offering guests at Sayari a unique view of these beautiful creatures. 15 elegantly appointed suites are positioned on a hillside, offering an expansive view of the wild lands of the Serengeti. Sayari Camp is one of the finest safari camps to explore Big 5 country from – Africa in all its wild glory.
Sayari is based in the lesser explored northern corner of the Serengeti, where dramatic landscapes and thousands of wild creatures abound. The area has only recently become known to safari enthusiasts, as it wasn’t until 2005 that the region became a conservation area, even though it borders Maasai Mara.
The period between December and March is known as ‘the safari connoisseur’s season’, as the herds have settled after migration. The northern Serengeti is known as one of the most sought-after game-viewing areas in East Africa, with added highlights such as the Lamai Wedge, where herds gather before crossing the crocodile-infested of the mighty Mara River.
But for some, the months outside of the migration are best, when the Serengeti plains are teeming with large herds of wildebeest, lion and cheetah. Elephant roam the more wooded areas, leopard can be spotted alongside the Mara River, and over 500 species of birdlife can be found near Sayari throughout the year.
Back at the camp, guests are treated to the best of safari accommodation. 15 luxury tented suites blend in with their exquisite wilderness environment, with mahogany floors, floor-to-ceiling windows framing perfect views, modern baths and crisp linen on king-size beds. The tented suites have canvas walls which can be pulled back to reveal the majesty of the Serengeti, and boast their own private verandas.
The main guest area offers a lounge, library, bar and dining rooms, leading out onto a large terrace with a rim-flow pool overlooking the plains. It is clear why Sayari Camp ranks as a world favourite.
