Bazaruto Archipelago
When people talk about Mozambique, they are usually referring to the Bazaruto Archipelago. This spectacular collection of palm-fringed islands is the top attraction in Mozambique. The luxury lodges that you find here cater to the top end visitor with every comfort you could possibly need, but don't expect low prices! Established in 1971, Bazaruto National Park protects the flora and fauna, both land and marine, of the Archipelago’s islands.
With plenty of activities to keep you busy, or a paradise to relax and do nothing, you will see why Bazaruto Archipelago is a favourite destination for honeymooners. You can see an astounding variety of marine life even while just snorkeling. Excellent dive centres offer world-class scuba diving to go further offshore. The deep Mozambique Channel lures both recreational and specialist game fishermen.

The Bazaruto Archipelago is a crystal clear paradise for snorkellers and scuba divers, both experienced and novice. Two Mile Reef is one of the best dive sites to visit. The fully equipped dive centres and dive masters at your lodge will prepare you for your experience. Coral reefs surrounding the islands are pristine and unspoilt and offer a staggering variety and abundance of beautiful marine life. You can also visit the deserted Pansy Island, a breeding ground for the fragile pansy shell.

| Game fishing |
|
The Bazaruto Archipelago offers some of the best fishing in the world. Exciting game fish species such as kingfish, queenfish, barracuda, mackerel and Yellowfin tuna pass through the deep Mozambique Channel. Species such as Black, Blue and Striped marlin, sailfish and wahoo attract both recreational and specialist anglers. Most species occur inside the Bazaruto Archipelago reserve which stretches 6 miles out to sea. A tag and release ploicy ensures the sustainable use of this marine resource.

| Best Time to Travel |
|
Being in the tropics, Mozambique experiences summer rainfalls from October to March. The rainfalls can be particularly heavy in February and some lodges close. November, December and January are extremely hot. The winter months of June, July and August are milder. The best time to visit is between May and November when rainfall and temps are at their lowest. It is also ok to travel during the early part of the rainy season, but be prepared for sweltering temps. Fishing is good all year round.
