Ruckomechi overlooks the Zambezi River in a large concession alongside Mana Pools National Park. Guests at Ruckomechi and Little Ruckomechi have private use of the concession, allowing for exclusive activities. These include game drives, walking safaris, river safaris, canoeing, catch & release fishing, sunset cruises and the chance to spend a night in the Star Bed alongside the waterhole. Elephants often wander into the camp to calmly feed on their favourite trees.
Ruckomechi offers 10 spacious and luxurious en-suite tents spaced out along a kilometer of the riverfront. Two of these are family rooms. All the tents boast exquisite river views from within, as well as from private decks with comfortable seating.
The décor is colonial-African style, all earthy colors, natural materials and embroidered with safari heritage. The electricity for hot water and lights is comes from cleverly placed solar panels.
The luxury continues to unfold in the shared areas where you’ll find an inviting dining tent, open-air dining area, luxurious lounge, fire pit, library, bar and a sparklingly cool infinity pool. An outdoor bath with a magnificent view can be found close by, in a scenic but secluded spot.
All the structures at Ruckomechi are built to blend into the environment and are constructed with naturally occurring materials, allowing for a low ecological footprint.
Game viewing experiences are superbly rewarding, with large concentrations of buffalo and elephant in the area. Hippos, lions, leopards, plains game and an abundance of birds complete the picture. Look (and listen) out for western banded snake eagles, Arnot’s chats, green-capped eremomelas and Meve’s starlings!
