1. Kitima in Hout Bay
Kitima is one of those rare Cape Town gems. It never disappoints and even walking through the heavy wooden doors of this historic Cape Dutch building into the warm atmosphere and gorgeous interiors, immediately transports you to another place that is utterly romantic and has a certain magic that you can’t quite put your finger on. Add to that the excellent cocktails at the bar, the sumptuous variety of Asian cuisine and you have the perfect recipe for romance.
There are lots of nooks and crannies at this Hout Bay restaurant; you can either dine in one of the front dining rooms or in summer there are tables outside in the courtyard with lots of twinkly lights and candles. Try the mouth-watering Crispy Duck Pancakes or Panang Red Lychee Duck Curry or for the less ravenous there are a variety of mouthwatering dim sum and sushi options to choose from … either way, we can almost guarantee you will be back for a second date!
2. Koi at the Ambassador in Bantry Bay
Another one of Cape Town’s most romantic restaurants to accompany your budding love-affair is Koi Restaurant located in the ϋber-stylish Ambassador Hotel in Bantry Bay, perched on the water’s edge with breathtaking sea views over the Atlantic Ocean … need we say more? The restaurant offers a simple yet unique interior with impeccable service and an innovative menu expertly blending Asian with Western cuisine. They have an extensive sushi and dim sum selection, perfect for sharing with your loved one. Try one of their signature dishes such as the Sesame Crusted Seared Tuna, the Crispy Spicy California rolls or their Koi Fashion Sandwich made with salmon, prawn and caviar.
To start your evening of romance pop across to Salt Vodka Bar, which is perfect for pre-dinner sundowner cocktails and catching one of Cape Town’s famous sunsets. They offer 30 global premium vodka brands plus a walk-in champagne fridge filled with local and French champagne … the catalyst for many a love affair!
3. The Roundhouse in Camps Bay
If you are looking to wow your loved one with incredible wrap-around views of Table Mountain and vistas over Camps Bay beach, great ambiance, superb service and extraordinary food, then look no further than The Roundhouse.
Another historic property and one of the most romantic restaurants in Cape Town, it offers contemporary European dishes with an African twist, and there is even a private dining room that can be booked. You can captivate your date by ordering the six-course tasting menu which offers you the option of perfectly paired wines with each course and includes a selection of courses from the a la carte menu including Saldanha Bay Black Mussels, Pan Roasted Kingklip with Risotto, Free Range Duck Breast served on Crispy Polenta and a Dark Chocolate and Banana Gateau that is simply to die for. This is truly superb dining in a picture-perfect setting.
4. The Greenhouse at the Cellars-Hohenort in Constantia
If you are looking to sweep your sweetheart off their feet and you have something elegant in mind where your evening revolves around incredible taste sensations, then The Greenhouse at the Cellars-Hohenort is definitely for you!
Not only is this restaurant consistently rated under the top five restaurants in Cape Town, but it showcases the cities first Relaϊs & Chateaux Grand Chef, Peter Tempelhoff. His tasting menu reads like a fairytale story where contrasting flavor combinations are fused to create a dish that reflects South Africa’s diverse culture and fresh local produce. Try the Ostrich Fillet with Celeriac Ash, Sour Fig, Kale and Sago, or the Dusky Kob with Burnt Chili, West Coast Rock Lobster and Choy and for desert the Naartjie Cheesecake with Hazelnut, Meringue and Lavender – each one is sure to be a tantalizing taste sensation.
The restaurant only seats 45 guests (ensuring the utmost intimate dining experience); the award-winning Constantia wine pairings are sublime, and you can even go for a pre-dinner glass of champagne or martini at The Martini Bar, the in-house bar at the hotel. Either way, we guarantee this will be a night to remember!
5. Café Dijon in Green Point
If you are looking for a cozy and intimate restaurant in the heart of Cape Town’s trendy Green Point, where you can enjoy a fillet steak done to perfection while staring into your lover’s eyes, then you should consider Café Dijon.
I love this little French gem with its Bistro Café interior which transports you straight to Paris, the City of Love … thus earning it a position on our most romantic restaurants in Cape Town list! Have a pre-dinner drink at the dark wood and marble-topped bar, sit close to your loved one on one of the square tables with their wrought iron feet and I promise you will be utterly enchanted. The exposed brickwork, variety of mirrors and mosaic floor could be a little Bistro anywhere in France. In the summer, you can sit outside in the courtyard with fairy lights twinkling above you. Try one of their classic French Bistro inspired dishes such as the Steak Tartare or Pork Belly with Puy Lentils.
Myself, I would go for their signature 400g Angus Beef Steak, the ‘Dijon Cut’, which comes with crispy French Fries and a side salad. Enough to make all resistance for romance crumble!
