Jacana Camp consists of five spacious and en-suite Meru-style tents, each with an outdoor shower and built on raised wooden decks to afford visitors spectacular views over the Delta and its surrounding floodplains. The main dining area lies between two splendid sycamore fig trees and is elevated on a wooden platform, surrounded by thick wild date palms. An intimate bar and lounge area can be found downstairs with a traditional open fireplace for starry nights, as well as a plunge pool for a refreshing dip during the heat of the day. Meals can be enjoyed al fresco in a traditional boma under the spectacular African sky.The fact that Jacana Camp is located in one of the most densely populated wetland areas means that it is the perfect place for spotting a huge variety of wildlife such as the water loving sitatunga and red lechwe, as well as crocodile and hippo, and in the dry season lion, buffalo, leopard and elephant. Two platform hides within the Jao concession provide the ideal viewing spot, and guests are even able to ‘sleep out’ at one of these on request.
Activities at the camp range from guided mokoro trips (the traditional dug-out canoe), boating and fishing trips which are offered throughout the year, as well as land-based 4×4 game drives when the waters have subsided. Another main allure of Botswana’s Delta wetlands is of course the prolific birdlife. Birding-enthusiasts can spot the rare Pel’s Fishing-owl, Slaty Egret, African and Lesser Jacanas, as well as Botswana Safari favourites such as the African Pygmy-Goose and the Western Banded Snake-Eagle.This is the Okavango Delta at its best, and the remote seclusion of the island offers guests not only an immense variety of wildlife but embodies all the mystique and magic of this region. The extraordinary setting of Jacana Camp is a place of peace and tranquillity and should not be missed for unique wilderness safaris experience..
