Sossusvlei, Namibia
Spectacular by day and magical by night, Sossusvlei boasts the highest sand dunes in the world. No two days are ever the same as the wind constantly reshapes and reforms them. Lying within the Namib-Naukluft National Park, it is a huge clay pan enclosed by these giant sand dunes, some of which are 300 metres high. Only after a heavy rainfall, a rare event in these parts, does the pan fill with water.
Stargazing at night is made perfect by the clear skies. With no city lights or pollution of any kind, the expansive skies are crammed with stars. During the day, gaze down below at a landscape that changes all the time from a hot air balloon, a truly unforgettable experience. As the distances are so great, save driving time in this vast land by opting for a fly-in safari.

A vast semi-desert savanna landscape (40 000 square kms), it is the 4th largest National Park in the world. Established from diamond mining areas and farmland to protect the Hartmann's zebra, it is home to interesting plant, animal and bird species that can survive in the harsh desert climate. Various aloe and thorn trees, lots of bird species and mammals including baboons, antelope and zebra are found here. It is also home to the beautiful dunes of Sossusvlei.

The best way to experience Namibia is by air. This is a large country and distances are great, so instead of spending 6 hours on bumpy dirt roads, rather travel in style and fly your way around. Our 7 night "Visions of Namibia Safari" is a luxury air safari with your own private pilot who is also your guide. Flights are in small 6-seater Cessna aircraft, perfect for these trips. Each area that you will explore is an easy hour's flight from the Namibian capital, Windhoek.

| Best time to travel |

The desert of Sossusvlei becomes extremely hot in the summer months which are from October to April. If you have the spirit to brave this heat, you will have a lovely time. We recommend you pick a lodge with air conditioning and even a pool to cool off! The winter months of May to September are cooler and therefore the most popular. If you are visiting the region during this time, make sure to book well in advance as it gets busy.
