Intimate, remote and breathtaking, Chamilandu Bush Camp takes you to the heart of Africa with amazing views over the Luangwa River and entrancing game-viewing right from the decks of the three luxury tree-houses on stilts. One of the Bushcamp Company’s exclusive properties, the camp is set in a prime river location of the South Luangwa National Park in Zambia , far from other camps, and is only open during the June to November dry season, when plentiful wild-life congregates along the river and lagoons, and elephants saunter through the camp. The three thatched chalets built of traditional materials have a rustic feel. They are perched on stilts beneath a lofty grove of ebony trees, front open to the river view and balmy breezes. The luxury comes from the handsome four poster beds draped in mosquito nets, the tactile fabrics, crisp bed linen and beautiful local accessories. The ensuite open air bathroom has a monsoon shower and delicious toiletries, also with views over the river so that guests don’t miss a minute of wildlife sightings.

Abundant wildlife, including the elusive leopard, makes the morning game walks and evening drives, in the very comfortable safari vehicles, an informative adventure with extremely knowledgeable guides finding, lions, elephant, hippos, giraffe, warthogs and many smaller and fascinating creatures. The only one of the Big5 missing is the rhino which is no longer to be found in this part of Zambia. Rewarding afternoons spent in the lagoon hide relaxing over lunch or tea, result in close-up views of elephant bathing, birdlife and the shyer animals such as kudu, who come up close enough almost to touch.

The food complements the ambience perfectly, beautifully prepared and presented, abundant and full of flavour, guests might enjoy a romantic candlelit dinner under the stars one night, a traditional local banquet another, or informal pizzas in the brick oven down at the hide for brunch, with luscious desserts including crepes and soufflés that would rival a top city restaurant.

With only three double rooms Chamilandu has an intimate personal feel that makes the safari experience even more special and unmatchable hospitality for a memorable stay.

House chalets

Traditional décor adorns the 2-meter high tree house chalets (only 3 chalets in camp). The tasteful blend of wrought iron and brass offsets the thatch and wood that welcome you to recline and relax. Black mosquito netting allows guests to retain an uninterrupted view of the Luangwa River and Chindeni Hills at night under the moonlight and stars above. Open to a 180° vista, each tree house provides an exciting frame of the surrounding Luangwa Valley. The four-poster beds enjoy a bird’s eye view over the Luangwa River and the abundant wildlife that has made the valley famous. With the magnificent Chindeni Hills as the backdrop for your view, Chamilandu affords you the majesty of Africa in all its forms. Outdoor bathrooms adjoin each chalet with a large shower and double vanities under the open sky.
