The three thatched chalets built of traditional materials have a rustic feel. They are perched on stilts beneath a lofty grove of ebony trees, front open to the river view and balmy breezes. The luxury comes from the handsome four poster beds draped in mosquito nets, the tactile fabrics, crisp bed linen and beautiful local accessories. The ensuite open air bathroom has a monsoon shower and delicious toiletries, also with views over the river so that guests don’t miss a minute of wildlife sightings.
Abundant wildlife, including the elusive leopard, makes the morning game walks and evening drives, in the very comfortable safari vehicles, an informative adventure with extremely knowledgeable guides finding, lions, elephant, hippos, giraffe, warthogs and many smaller and fascinating creatures. The only one of the Big5 missing is the rhino which is no longer to be found in this part of Zambia. Rewarding afternoons spent in the lagoon hide relaxing over lunch or tea, result in close-up views of elephant bathing, birdlife and the shyer animals such as kudu, who come up close enough almost to touch.
The food complements the ambience perfectly, beautifully prepared and presented, abundant and full of flavour, guests might enjoy a romantic candlelit dinner under the stars one night, a traditional local banquet another, or informal pizzas in the brick oven down at the hide for brunch, with luscious desserts including crepes and soufflés that would rival a top city restaurant.
With only three double rooms Chamilandu has an intimate personal feel that makes the safari experience even more special and unmatchable hospitality for a memorable stay.
