South Africa has a unique set of challenges with millions of people living from hand to mouth. With no jobs and no income, people are starving. Kids are crying from hunger.

The COVID-19 pandemic has completely changed our lives.

It has been incredible to see the show of compassion for our fellow humans and how many people are willing to stand up and help.

We put out a plea to our clients, friends and family to help fund our initiative in the Vrygrond Township. I am delighted to say that we raised nearly R100 000 (approximately US$5800). Thank you!

We have been working hard on the ground, to make sure people are being fed. We have friends and neighbours cooking hot meals and making sandwiches each morning. These are then collected and taken to our feeding station. Every day over 2000 people are being fed at the soup kitchen for lunch and dinner. Children are fed first. It is humbling to see parents pushing their kids forward day after day, even when there is nothing left for the adults to eat.

The elderly and infirm have their daily meal delivered to them so they don’t have to queue up in the rain and wind.

In addition, we are supporting 63 families with weekly food parcels. These parcels include staples such as rice, maize meal, salt, tinned fish, milk, fruit and vegetables.

We are so proud of our dedicated and warm-hearted Southern Destinations team, who have been working so hard to help those less fortunate than ourselves. If you would like to help, please let us know.
